The era of “move fast and break things” is over. And yet, modern data teams still need to move quickly to deliver data products that drive competitive advantages for their organization. Speed and governance are concepts that have traditionally been at odds for most data teams. So–how can you move fast, without breaking (too many) things?
The new Secoda and Lightdash integration enables data teams to move with speed, giving business users the ability to query, visualize, and answer their own questions with data–while also ensuring highly trustworthy and properly governed data.
About the integration
Now with the Lightdash and Secoda integration, both data producers and consumers, regardless of technical ability, can easily search and answer their data questions. Self-serve BI is about enabling organizations by empowering any user in the business with the autonomy to confidently explore data. With Lightdash, your defined metrics in your dbt projects or data warehouse, can be instantly visualized in dashboards. Secoda will automatically sync, catalog, document, and visualize data lineage between sources allowing you to search across your entire data infrastructure. Secoda will also notify you of potential upstream data quality issues so you can ensure integrity and trust in your Lightdash assets.
Integration Details
AI-powered data discovery
Intuitively search across all Lightdash charts and dashbords, as well as tables, columns, metrics, or models that feed into them in natural language. Using Secoda’s AI-powered search, anyone, regardless of technical ability can ask questions and get contextual answers. Allow your data team to focus on impactful work and deflect questions that would otherwise distract and stifle productivity.
Metrics layer visibility and end-to-end table and column level lineage
Elevate the visibility of your metrics layers across your entire company. Follow lineage that feeds into specific metrics, so you can understand the source and importance of various aspects of the layer. With the new integration, you can easily review a broken metric, related metrics, or tag and categorize important metrics.
Cataloging and documentation
Automatically catalog all metrics and definitions so you can have a single source of truth. You can also now use Secoda AI to generate documentation for all Lightdash assets. For example, you can write prompts like “write a paragraph explaining what the ‘Orders dashboard’ is used for, how each metric is defined, and any other information that would be helpful for a new user to understand this data asset” to document a new Lightdash chart or dashboard in Secoda.
Workflow automation
Build custom workflows to automate manual tasks like assigning clean-up tasks or identifying stale assets so you can spend more time on impactful work.
Data quality
Verify the trustworthiness of dashboard assets with data monitoring and observability from Secoda. With the integration, you can view dbt test results and confirm there are no data issues upstream of a Lightdash chart or dashboard. Secoda lets you surface any potential issues or threshold breaches in the same place where data discovery is already happening to build confidence and adoption of your self-serve initiatives.
Simplified Data Governance:
Enjoy streamlined data governance and precise role-based access control (RBAC), all managed from a central hub. Assign permissions based on team roles and other defined attributes.
Safe and easy migration:
Simplify your legacy BI tool migration to Lightdash by transforming the typically complex and daunting process into a smooth, automated workflow. Secoda maps all dependencies and relationships, ensuring every asset is accounted for. It also generates documentation automatically throughout the process, so no detail is overlooked.
